VISCUM
ALBUM
Put two veteran 70's jazz-funkers in the studio for a few days with three
"new generation" devotees of the style, let 'em rip on a wide
variety of material - straight songs, catchy riffs, weird atmospheres
- and, if you're lucky, you get something as satisfying as this!
The musicians were (and thus you are) very fortunate indeed; the studio
and engineer were top-notch, the mood relaxed and hassle-free, the group's
collective creative vibe strong and the audiofunometer constantly "in
the red"!
Danilo Visco is a young bassist from Southern Italy developing a unique
approach to fretless soloing, eschewing flashy technique and tricky stock
riffage for speech-based phrasing the bewitching emotional power of which,
on his audiences, is utterly amazing. This album, which features 11 of
his original compositions, is a fine achievement in itself as well as
an exciting promise of greater things to come.

p.s. "Viscum Album" is Latin for (white) European mistletoe
- that most mysterious, magical and holy plant of old - and letting this
CD "hang" in your house is guaranteed to bring kisses, fertility
and good luck! ;-) |
