"Yesterday,
Saturday May 29th, in Conegliano, in the course of the ongoing Antennacinema
festival dedicated to the Fab Four" (...there was also the presentation
of the new record by Stefano Cerri, produced by Mark Harris...) "...it
is an original project the idea for which was born, as recounted by the
artist - son of jazzman" (...) " Franco Cerri - during the soundchecks
of the last Fabrizio De André tour, in which both he and Harris
took part. The CD is entitled "Fab Four-String", and contains
a generous twenty-two Beatle tunes revisited with the electric bass used
as a solo instrument (and recorded straight without added overdubs). Cerri,
who utilized for this project the traditional four-string bass - whence
the title - and not the Chapman Stick, on which he is a virtuoso, explained
that he decided to mate the solo bass with other "guest" instruments,
on half of the selections, to avoid an excessive - and possibly tiresome
- timbral homogeneity." (there follow the track-list and line-up)
"The result is a very special record, with moments of great atmosphere
("Norwegian Wood") and others of perhaps excessive sophistication;
in any case, without a doubt, a most original CD, one that Beatle fans
and collectors must not let themselves be without."
