Stefano Cerri
(Milan, Italy: September
22nd 1952 - November 24th 2000)
A self-taught bass player, Stefano collaborated for almost 30 years as
top-call session-man with numerous top Italian and international artists.
He was active both in the world of pop (with Ramazzotti, Finardi, Battiato,
Daniele, De André, Brian Auger, Jon Anderson...) and on the jazz
scene (with his father Franco, Guido Manusardi, Tony Scott, Linea C...).
He left his soulful contribution on hundreds of recordings and in thousands
of live performances all over the world, and for many years was voted
"best Italian electric bassist", both by critics and the general
public.
Sadly, Stefano passed away last year while promotion was under way for
his solo album, "Fab Four-String",
a unique tribute to his favorite group - the Beatles - performed on solo
four-string electric bass (no overdubs!) with numerous guests. His final,
masterful statement in the rock vein is on Erika Cecchini's "In
my bed". Saint Rock is honored to offer both of these
rare gems through this site. |
